“Give me not a fish to feed me just today, but teach me how to fish to feed me everyday” – Wise sayings
Save Our Women International, Inc.’s mission is to create awareness through education and information, and to help provide supporting social structures, around female fertility health and the prevention of Teenage pregnancy and HIV/AIDS.
SOWI advocates for the right of the young lady to information and education, access to safe, accessible health care, in an environment that promotes safe choices and is friendly towards the victim. SOWI is a 501c organization registered in the United States and Ghana and reaches over 2000 girls annually.
The most important element to SOWI’s approach is its preventive potential. Data shows that, illegal abortions and poor fertility health kills more than 30% of women of childbearing age in Ghana. With timely and adequate information and education, this figure is hugely reduced. This is what has made our mentoring clubs “SOWI mentoring clubs (SMC),” most effective. SOWI mentoring clubs takes this information to schools around the country and engages young women in face-to-face opportunities that explore their sexuality, and answers questions in young minds. Reducing the effect of misinformation through peer-to-peer transfer. SMC also gives us the opportunity to identify victims and make timely interventions.
SOWI was started by Juliet Asante; as a young lady, Juliet was driven towards issues of empowering young people in her home country.
